Computer Parts- The Essential Building Blocks

A computer is a complex machine that helps in performing all kinds of functions. Difficult or easy, the computer system has a solution for every problem. However, it is worth noting that there are some important parts of the computer system. These parts work as a building block for making a computer system complete and useful. There are five main parts: Motherboard, CPU, Random Access Memory, Hard drive, and video card.

Motherboard, The Most Essential Part

Motherboard is one of the most essential parts of the computer system. It is a circuit board with many functions and helps in transferring information from one part of the computer to another. The location of ports is mainly on the outside area of the motherboard. These ports help in connecting many components with a computer system. Storing basic information like the timing is also one of the vital functions of this computer part.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Central Processing Unit is the brain of the computer system. It deals with logical and arithmetic functions. It is related to the computer in the same manner as the engine is related to the car. The speed of the CPU varies from time to time. It never works at a constant speed. This speed depends on the nature of the task a CPU is going to perform. The CPU generates a lot of heat while performing its function. A fan that is fitted inside helps regulate the temperature. A powerful CPU is more capable of performing the more intense task. Internet browsing, preparing spreadsheet, word processing is the basic functions that any CPU can perform. However, one will need a more powerful CPU in order to perform a more difficult task. Playing CPU intensive games and editing of high definition video requires a more advanced CPU.

Random Access Memory

It is a temporary or volatile memory. All the application’s data is stored in the Random Access Memory when the application is open. However, all the data disappears once we close that particular application. This is why it is called the Random Access Memory. Sometimes our computer slows down when one opens many applications simultaneously, causing the Random Access Memory to exceed its capacity. The moment the computer is turned off, all unsaved data is lost. This is why it is essential to save the data while working on any application.

Hard Drive

As the RAM is temporary and volatile by nature; a more permanent form of the data storage system is required for a system. Hard drive or Solid-state drive fulfills this requirement. It consists of different platters, which spin regularly. The arms of this drive help in writing the data on these platters. This kind of hard drive is archaic in nature. However, the latest ones are faster in comparison to the old ones. The recent hard drives have flash memory, similar to what we often use in our phones. These are much faster but a bit costly in comparison to the older ones.

Video Card, An Output Image Generating Computer Part

A video Card is also one of the major computer parts. It helps in forming a feed of output images to the display device like a monitor. It is mostly required when the requirement of the task is visual. This also helps in taking the load off the RAM. An Integrated or Graphic card can also be used. However, Graphic cards are more expensive as compared to the integrated card.

Conclusion

There are the main parts of a computer as they make the system a wholesome package.
