Usage-Based Preventive Maintenance
Usage-based preventive maintenance is one of the best mechanisms among all. It is a combination of meter-based and time based preventive maintenance. It measures the average daily usage of equipment and uses the data to predict the date before which servicing is required. On one hand, this maintenance takes the help of meter readings and connects it to the CMMS. On the other hand, it also predicts the actual time of breakdown. Meter reading is compulsory to keep a track of utilization.
This kind of maintenance explain its usage through its name explicitly. It assesses the condition of the equipment through the sensor device. The sensor device helps in transferring the data in real-time. This helps in predicting the exact time of maintenance and protects the equipment from failing
We often use the short form “RxM” for this maintenance. Collection and analyses of data regarding the condition of the equipment are the main functions of this kind of mechanism. One can find a similarity between Predictive and prescriptive mechanism. Predictive maintenance uses a sensory device for the collection and analysis of data and predicts the time of breakdown. On the other hand, prescriptive maintenance goes a step further. It not only predicts the time of failure but also recommends the actions to be taken further.
In summary, all four kinds of preventive maintenance are unique. They are very helpful in securing the assets from future breakdowns. These methods may be different, but the aim of all the preventive maintenance is almost the same.
